I'm Ian Gracias, MSc, based in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire.
While my professional background lies in Financial Investments and cybersecurity, my true passion has always been the piano and piano technology. I'm dedicated to restoring and enhancing the beauty of this magnificent instrument.
My journey with the piano began at a young age. I completed various Trinity exam levels and developed a deep appreciation for classical music. After a hiatus of several years, I've recently reconnected with playing, rekindling my love for the instrument. This passion was further ignited whilst singing with the church choir at St. Philip Neri RC in Mansfield.
Beyond music, I embrace a diverse range of interests including gardening, Arctic expeditions, hill walking, and marathon running—activities that bring balance to my technical work.
My formal training in piano technology includes completing the Intensive Piano Tuning and Repairs course at the Piano Technology School in Rugby, under the expert guidance of Steve Droy RPT. I've further enhanced my skills by studying Grand regulation at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London with head technician Doug Chapman.
I'm a proud member of the Registered Piano Technician Guild and the Institute of Music Instrument Technology (IMIT). I adhere strictly to the PTG code of ethics, which promotes the highest standards of professional conduct. Attaining the Registered Piano Technician (RPT) certification—the gold standard in our field—remains my primary goal as I strive to deliver an outstanding service to all my clients.
With a blend of technical expertise and musical sensitivity, I approach each piano as a unique instrument deserving individualised care and attention. I believe that a well-maintained piano not only sounds better but also inspires greater creativity and enjoyment for the pianist.
